Beginning Instrumental Music (Grades 4, 5, and 6)
Begnining Instrumental Music at the Fulton School at St. Albans is a performance based curriculum incorporating strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion from 4th grade through 6th grade. Instruction is focused on student’s exploration of musical skills in terms of tone, pitch, rhythm, musicality, and note reading. Each class incorporates a broad understanding and appreciation of music including foundations in music theory and music history. The Essential Elements 2000 series is used as a comprehensive instrumental method. Additionally, ensembles perform from a wide catalog including Art, Popular, and Folk genres. The aim is to provide the tools and resources for students to achieve the highest level of skill on his or her instrument while also making cross curricular connections through music.
Individual and group music instruction, before and after school, can be scheduled through the office for an additional fee. Students can take lessons in guitar, piano, strings, brass, woodwinds, or percussion. Lessons are offered for 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length.
2015-2016 Welcome Letter
Dear Students and Parents:
Welcome to the new school year and another season of instrumental music at The Fulton School at St. Albans. Fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students will need to select an instrument to study during music class. This most often includes flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, and percussion, as well as string instruments such as violin, guitar, and piano. If you have yet to choose an instrument, I will work with you during the first few weeks of school to find a match that works best. Listed below are two music stores that provide instrumental rental and supplies for the school year. Percussion instruments are provided by the school.
Music books and sheet music selections are also provided by the music program, however, if you would like to buy an individual copy of a method book please check the syllabus for your particular class to select the appropriate book. Other supplies you may wish to buy are cleaning supplies, pencils, and a wire music stand for practice at home. I look forward to an exciting and fun year of music and the opportunity to assist students in their interaction and appreciation of music. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. We are continuously building the program and I am flexible to all options that encourage student participation in music and nourishing the school’s growth.
