TFS Athletes Go To State Championships!
Garrett Loyd, Junior, and David Freccero, Senior, qualified to go to the State Championships in Varsity Golf and Varsity Track, respectively.
Garrett placed ninth at the District Golf competition at the Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville, MO in early May. This qualified him for the State Championships at River Cut Golf Course in Springfield, MO, where he shot a season-best score of 89 on Monday, May 17. The state competition consists of 18 holes of golf, two days in row with the total score for both days ranking the golfers among the 125 present. Garrett ended up in 47th place overall, fulfilling his dream of going to the state golf championship. He was coached by Dave Porter, long-time coach at Lafayette High School and Poplar Bluff High School.
David entered the District Track competition in Fulton, MO running the 100, 200 and 400 meter runs. He qualified in all three events to proceed to the Sectional competition and won first place in the 400 meter run, making him and The Fulton School the District Champions for that event. In Sedalia, MO at the Sectionals, David qualified for the 100 and 400 meter runs, earning him the opportunity to run in Jefferson City at the State Championship. At Lincoln University in Jeff City, David ran the preliminaries and moved onto the finals in the 400 meter run. He placed 7th in the state, earning the honor of "All State Athlete" in Missouri for the 2010 Track and Field Season. David was supported by CDS alum, Kyle Magee (State Track and Field Qualifier, 2005) and Coach Jose Holliday.
David is an exchange student from Germany, who is living with Garrett and his family this school year. Garrett's and David's hard work and dedication showed as these two young men represented The Fulton School well at the State Championships. Garrett has played golf all his life and spent countless hours on the golf course this spring. David has never participated on a track team but his love of running and tireless hours practicing helped him realize his goal of going to state. Both are three sport athletes and outstanding young men. Congratulations Garrett and David!
