Snack is a big deal in the classroom :) Snack in a Montessori classroom is an independent activity. The students help prepare the food and set the table. Once the preparations are completed, snack is available for the work cycle for two or three students at time. Students choose when they would like to have snack. Once finished, they clean their place and leave it ready for the next student. Each week, one family is responsible for bringing snack for the entire class for the full week. We rotate families throughout the course of the year. We ask that you limit snack to healthy items: home-baked good, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, crackers, pretzels, yogurt, raisins, etc. - Montessori Garden
We have a beautiful playground area amid our Montessori Garden. The children help prepare, plant, water, weed, and harvest these gardens. We use the vegetables (like pumpkins) and herbs for our math and practical life works. The children even cut flowers and use them for a flower arranging work! It's a great way for our children to feel connected to the earth and experience the growing cycles. - Parent Participation
Please keep an eye out for volunteer opportunities in our classroom. Do you have a skill or profession or interesting cultural travels you'd like to share with the class? Let us know and we can arrange for you to be a guest speaker! We occassionally need drivers for field trips, need help preparing our gardens, or even taking dictation with the students. We greatly appreciate all of your hard work and contributions. Volunteering for school-wide events is also a great way to get to know other parens across the different age levels. Your child will be talking about the "big kids" that they get to work with throughout the year. It's a perfect opportunity to meet those other families! Be sure that anytime you come to volunteer, you sign in and out in the office.
