Parent Communication, COVID-19, May 7

Dear TFS Families,

You are in the homestretch (of TFS@Home, anyway)!  For almost 30 (school) days you have watched over your children's education, partnered with our teachers (giving new meaning to our mission statement about the parent partnership), while you juggled working from home, following health guidelines, facing financial stress, and/or managing anxiety about our nation, healthcare workers, and loved ones.  It has been a LOT.  From my perspective, I am amazed and proud of all of you (parents and kids) and how you're each navigating in your own ways.

I wanted to touch base again to answer some questions I know you must have.  Bear in mind, things seem to change quickly.  As we serve both Franklin and St. Louis counties (and even St. Charles and Warren counties), we will generally go with the most conservative guidelines.
  • The last day of the regular class schedule will be Wednesday, May 20.
  • The morning of Thursday, May 21, we will hold two gatherings via Zoom for the students: one small group with their class or advisory, then end the year with a large group gathering (one for Lower School and one for Upper School). Parents are welcome to attend the large gatherings if you would like.  Details will be in the memo and on class calendars.
  • We are holding our High School Athletic Banquet tomorrow night via Zoom, and are creating special outlets to share Senior Projects, 6th grade speeches, and other year end traditions.
  • We are working on a plan to have pick up/drop off days for families once the Stay at Home order is lifted in St. Louis County.  Students/parents would be able to clean out lockers/cubbies (including PE lockers), return uniforms and leased textbooks, pick up artwork, yearbooks, sports pins, etc. We'll even have a large collection of Lost and Found items out for perusal! Watch for those details in the Tuesday Memo on May 19. We will follow all CDC guidelines, but if any family has high risk members and would like to arrange something separate, please contact me and we will be glad to accommodate you.
  • We are planning to hold graduation this summer and are waiting on new St. Louis County guidelines to be released before we choose a date.  It may look a little different than previous years, but we hope to keep as many traditions as we can, while creating a unique event for the Class of 2020.
  • We plan to reschedule High School Prom after we understand the new guidelines as well.
  • We are anxious to get the entire school community together this summer to celebrate Claudia's and Mary's retirements, as well as bring closure to the year.  We will do this if at all possible as we get information about what is appropriate.
As always, please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.

Warmly,
Kara
