These are the procedures that will be implemented that directly affect the Middle Schoolers (7th and 8th grade):

  • Middle School students will be required to wear face masks/shields in the building, but teachers will allow for removing them when the risk is low. Teachers reserve the right to dictate when face masks/shields are required within the classroom or within a cohort, keeping in mind physical distancing.
  • Several of the Middle School classrooms have sinks for handwashing.
  • The Middle School students will use the bathrooms in the Upper School hallway.
  • Middle Schoolers will have lunch in the Library (or outside). We will still have Pizza Mondays; pizza will be delivered to the students in the Library. Taco Tuesdays will be postponed until further notice.
  • Middle School teachers will take advantage of outdoor classrooms whenever possible.
  • PE will be held outdoors as much as possible; however, our gym is acceptable capacity-wise.
  • Interims for the 2020-21 school year are still pending.
  • Clubs will likely be high school only; we will create separate opportunities for middle school.
  • Middle School will participate in limited electives within their cohorts.
  • Arrival and dismissal for Middle School will be at the Upper Level Main Entrance. Face masks/shields are required when entering and leaving the building.
  • Parents are asked to drop their children off at the door.
  • Parents may come to the office if necessary, but in general are not allowed in the rest of the building.
  • Only a limited number of non-essential adults are allowed in the building. Face masks/shields are required for all visitors entering the building.
  • No large group events will be held, such as back-to-school events, etc.
  • Our traditional Morning Meetings in the Meeting Room for all Upper Schoolers will be altered to reduce the size of the gathering. Middle Schoolers will have Morning Meeting every morning in Dr. Austin's classroom.
  • Middle Schoolers will not join the weekly Upper School Advisory Meetings on Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • We will do a Middle School parent survey regarding the annual Outdoor Ed trip; the trip is still a possibility.
  • We will have fall Parent-Teacher Conferences either in person with face masks/shields and/or via Zoom.
