Announcement from the Fulton School Board of Trustees

Dear TFSSA Community,

We are excited to announce The Fulton School at St. Albans (TFSSA) will reunite with Chesterfield Day School (CDS) and move to 1100 White Road, operating as one school beginning July 1, 2022.

After thorough discussion and an in-depth review for the past several months, the Boards of Trustees of TFSSA and CDS voted unanimously to merge the two schools to strengthen our mutual mission of providing an innovative Montessori education for students and families who value a supportive and challenging environment.

Originally, TFSSA was a second campus for CDS.  The demand for independent school education was significant in the mid-90s when the second campus opened. In 2006, the TFSSA campus separated from CDS, allowing both schools to operate independently.

We have loved being a part of St. Albans, located in the heart of the community we were built to serve. But, the reality is the majority of our students have, for more than 25 years, resided outside of the St. Albans community, with most living in St. Louis and St. Charles counties. Moving to a location between these two corridors where we are more accessible to more admissions was something to be seriously considered. Leveraging a shared history, a fully aligned mission, and a strategic location creates opportunity for a synergistic reunion. In addition, it brings a unique upper school option to an area within convenient geographic proximity to a much larger student community.

We will spend the 2021-22 school year enjoying our St. Albans location. Behind the scenes, our Board and administrative staff will be preparing for a seamless move and an exciting start for the 2022-23 school year. The new entity will be called The Fulton School (TFS) in honor of the two schools’ shared long-time head, Dr. Barb Fulton. Kara Douglass will be named Head of the merged schools; Peggy Fiala, who has been the Head of School at CDS since 2017, will become the Assistant Head responsible for the Lower School at TFS. The TFSSA community of students, faculty, staff, and animals will move to the Chesterfield campus on White Road in Chesterfield next June.

We are excited about the opportunities this move will bring.  We fully expect to keep the same programming and maintain the high standards associated with being a fully accredited ISACS independent school, including preserving a student-to-staff ratio of 15:1 (first grade and up). Given that, we have plenty of room to grow. Our new location will make us accessible to more students and will allow us to broaden our local business and community partnerships.

The Board of Trustees of The Fulton School at St. Albans realizes this is a lot to process.  We will host a Town Hall meeting for the community next Wednesday, October 13 at 7 pm in the Keeping Room. We encourage you to come and ask questions and process these changes with us.

We are thankful for the vision that led to the creation of TFSSA.  We have, and always will, greatly value the St. Albans community.  It has been our home for the last 27 years. But, the heart of a school is its mission, and it is the students, families, teachers, and staff that bring it to life.

We hope you will join us and embrace these changes as we chart a new course to ensure our mission and vision continue to serve each of you.
